Hey Parents, Families, and Students! Welcome Back!
OMG! Can you believe we have made it through two (2) months of 2022... We are almost nearing the end of the first quarter of 2022.....Students have been in school for about seven months now without interruption..... Can you believe it?!
As a Middle School Educator in Urban Education for grades 5th - 8th; I am often asking myself, "Are my students really learning?" At the beginning of every school year, every quarter; this is the question I ask my students,
"How do you like to learn?"
"What's your learning style?"
Many students think they are learning because they are going to school every day, sitting at their desk or table, watching a person at the front of the room give them information for 45 minutes and they give the information back in the form of classwork, homework or test... but is that learning???!!
"Have you fallen in love with learning? Are you 'Happy in Love' with learning?
Over the last two to three years, parents, families, educators, and students have seen a different type of learning ... we have gone from 'in-person learning' to 'at-home learning with parents' to 'virtual learning' to 'blended learning' only to go back to 'in-person learning'...
WHEW! I became dizzy just by saying that?!
I don't know about you but how can students, parents, and even educators begin to fall in love with learning and become successful when learning isn't even consistent?!
No worries, 'the Education Specialist' is ready to give you 30 minutes of success and teach you how you can help your child fall in love with learning! Grab your pencils/ pens, notebooks... The bell has rung!
What is the meaning and purpose of Learning?
"Learning is life!" Without learning, we are useless, and our life becomes meaningless. It is just as essential to our lives as food, water, and shelter; Learning is essential to the existence and being in this world -- it nourishes our bodies and mind. Learning is the act or experience; the process of acquiring a new understanding, knowledge, behavior, skill, value, attitude, and preference. Learning is the ability to learn that is processed by humans. Continuous learning is a necessary part when acquiring critical thinking skills and discovering new ways to relate to people from across the world
What are the three main ways students learn?
Learning is processed in many different ways by many different people. There are three most popular learning styles among students: Visual - Students learn by seeing, Auditory-Students learn by hearing, and Kinesthetic-Students learn by doing.
So... How do students fall in love with learning?!
Figure out what you love to do.
If you don't know what you enjoy doing yet, go out and experiment.
Clarify this in your mind: Learning isn't limited to a classroom setting.
Bring in your friends and family – involve those you love.
Make it part of your daily life.
Give it time.
What's your learning style? What's your child's learning style? How does your child learn?
